Box Fan Knob

Box Fan Knob

During summer, my local hackerspace Sprout requires ventilation, which necessitates using a box fan with no knob. The cause of this predicament is unknown - perhaps it was lost or broken. Turning the fan manually with fingers is an uncomfortable task, and having pliers handy wasn't always possible. Fortunately, I owned a Thing-o-Matic 3D printer. Initially, I downloaded Stove Knob by wizard23, but it didn't fit perfectly due to a too-large hole for the shaft. To address this, I designed a new knob model in Sketchup. The first printed version had insufficient tolerance for ooze, but after scaling it up slightly, the third try was successful. For optimal compatibility, if your fan has a 1/4" diameter shaft with one or two flat edges, this knob should work right out of the printer. If not, adjustments to size and configuration can be made using the provided Sketchup file.
