Bowtie 5H - Construction Toy & Puzzle
thingiverse
The Bowtie, an innovative space-filling solid designed by Robert Reid, offers endless possibilities for assembling intriguing shapes. In collaboration with Reid, we authored a research paper and showcased it at Gathering for Gardner 9. This unique solid exemplifies a class of solids that effectively utilize space. To create a captivating puzzle, print nine pieces in one color, six in another, and four in a third color following the assembly instructions for a cube, as demonstrated in the first image provided. While the process may not be straightforward due to potential misalignments, George Miller is believed to have been among the first to attempt constructing this puzzle within a closed box. Manufacturing these pieces is relatively hassle-free with most printers. For stability, stand the pieces upright and use a raft. However, be cautious of potential tipping during print, so limit the number of pieces produced simultaneously.
