Always dreamed of crafting a visually striking bowl? Depending on your definition of artistic, you might want to give this a try. It's a simple yet elegant design, created from five triangular elements arranged in a circle where each triangle's height diminishes proportionally with the circle's diameter (factor .65). The elements are stacked while rotating 7 degrees with each successive layer. The result is a visually appealing piece that I'm pleased to share. One aspect I'm not entirely satisfied with is the connection between layers. Initially, I attempted using matches, but it didn't yield the desired outcome; therefore, I resorted to utilizing toothpicks (not included). Any suggestions for improvement are more than welcome. Enjoy building this unique piece! **Print Settings** Printer: K40 Laser Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: Doesn't Matter Notes: The design utilizes 4mm plywood, but the thickness doesn't impact its functionality. The holes measure 2mm in diameter, perfectly accommodating locally sourced toothpicks. **Post-Printing Instructions** Assemble the layers by connecting them with a toothpick and a small amount of glue. Sand each layer before adding the next one. My assembly looked like this. While it could have benefited from additional sanding to eliminate burn stains, I chose not to be too aggressive given the 4mm thickness of the layers. Finally, give your bowl a personal touch by applying a natural color finish. To maintain a clean workspace, be sure to use a paper cover – perhaps one featuring a still life of vegetables and fruits? **Design Process** Technically speaking, I explored triangular arrangements using Mathematica before exporting them into Illustrator where I added the connection holes. Inspirationally, this project was motivated by my desire to create something like this, combined with the need for a gift for a friend, which provided sufficient motivation to experiment and learn.
