If you know what's going on in these pics, lining up the Lubes perfectly straight using the crane can be a total nightmare to get the Bowen nut off. This used to turn into a ten minute struggle with wind, pipe tension and a crane that seemed like it was fighting back. But now, with this new tool, it's a five second job that requires just one smooth crane movement. When you're working on a project where time is of the essence - like when a $5000 / hour frac crew is waiting for you to get moving - this tool pays for itself right away. And let's be honest, it makes your crew look like absolute geniuses! The less time spent on the well, the better, since what's lurking down there can turn you into a surprised pink mist in no time. To use it, simply slap it onto the Bowen nut, adjust the bolt so it just barely touches the Lube and slide it around the Bowen nut until it's in place. The bolt will rub against the side of the Lube that the stack is leaning towards. Then, move the crane in the opposite direction and watch as the Bowen nut comes loose. If it doesn't budge, you've got a few problems on your hands - like maybe someone snapped the nut shut, or the crane is pulling up on it, or there's water in the threads that froze overnight... but one problem at a time, right? By the way, pouring some methanol onto the nut ten minutes before you reach the surface can help prevent it from freezing solid. Print this out flat, without any supports, and add a 1/4" X 3.5" long nut and bolt to complete the job. If you're wondering about that undercut on the tool, it's there so the gauge slides over hammer strikes on the edge of the Bowen nut - preventing false readings if the edge of the nut is damaged in any way. I use this baby all the time during coil tubing operations.
