Bowden Tube Conversion for Gregs or Wades Extruder, Threaded Fittings.
thingiverse
I've designed a Bowden tube conversion using Stu\_Dkn's Bowden extruder mount (now replaced by my own iteration for direct mounting) for Greg or Wade's extruder. The key components are the extruder bracket and the X carriage mount, which can be mounted anywhere that allows a short tube run. I personally mounted it to the left of my LCD screen by drilling two holes into the frame. This design utilizes standard groove mount sizing and requires two 1/8" pipe thread fittings and a chosen size of Bowden tube. I used the following parts: McMaster-Carr push tube fittings (part number 5449k173) and 3mm ID tubing (part number 52335k53). Note that the tubing was a bit snug on true 3mm filament, but it worked well with my local supplier's undersized filament. You may prefer to use tube with a 1/8" ID for better wiggle room. This conversion resulted in faster, vibration-free printing, with an instant 50% increase in movement speed and potential for more tuning to achieve even faster prints. The fit is tight on the threaded fitting; if you don't have a tap (usually included in sets), you can chamfer out the piece with a razor blade. You can see a video of the printing here: [http://youtu.be/AiU8ncPwO5c](http://youtu.be/AiU8ncPwO5c). I have since updated the design files extensively, adding a family table and adjusting files to accommodate 1/8" NPT, 1/4" NPT, and testing a straight tube-to-tube connector (marked as "Experimental"). Enjoy!
