Bowden to Direct Extruder Multi Material System

Bowden to Direct Extruder Multi Material System

The project targets creating a multi-material support for direct extruders using bowden extruders. Primarily developed for the JGAURORA A5 printer fitted with the JG TITAN MKII V2 direct extruder, it can be used with any direct extruder and bowden extruder in series. The goal is to maintain a reasonable price and simplicity. When two extruders are connected in series, synchronization issues arise. Perfect synchronization is not achievable, resulting in filament tensions. The main element of this project is a simple compensator that resolves synchronization problems. In print mode, the Bowden Extruder motors will be bang-bang controlled. When one limit switch is reached, it retracts or pushes 1.5cm of filament. In filament exchange mode, limit switches detect the introduction of filament into the direct extruder. A first run of the Extruder Compensator can be viewed at https://youtu.be/dqPSfk-N7gQ. Many people are transitioning to 32-bit boards, and the plan is to repurpose an old board to control this system. The SKR GEN L board will initially be used in this project. Emulation of the MMU2 protocol will be employed for communication with Marlin FW. Firmware development can be found at https://github.com/arsi-apli/BTDESystem
