Bow Drill Handle or Base . XCB-105-3583. 400 BCE-100 CE XCB-105 Adamagan, a significant Aleut village site in western Alaska Peninsula, boasts a rich history spanning multiple occupations. At its peak during the 400 BCE-100 CE period, this massive village was home to an estimated 1000 people, making it the largest settlement in the Arctic at that time. The site also reveals earlier occupations dating back to 2200-1700 BCE, 1000-600 BCE, and a later phase between 900-1100 CE. Research conducted under grants from NSF resulted in the collection of Western Alaska Peninsula artifacts. Principal Investigator H. Maschner led this research effort, which utilized advanced scanning technology including the Faro Edge Arm and Minolta Vivid 9i. The scanned data was then processed using Geomagic or Polyworks software, with 2-8 photos used to add texture in Geomagic Wrap. The original digitizing work took place at the IVL at Id. St. Univ., while subsequent processing and publication were completed at Global Digital Heritage.
