Tikves' Iconic Wine, Longing for the South The popular Balkan wine, T'ga za Jug, boasts a ruby red hue, distinctive aromas and ties to Macedonian poetry. This semi-dry wine is crafted from the Vranec grape, related to primitive/zinfandel but with deeper colour and richer flavour. Balanced sweetness and bitterness enhance its palate and finish, while notes of Thai red basil, Rooibos tea, black olive, sandalwood, plum, and blackberry create a harmonious blend. Juicy, affable, and with good length, it's no wonder this wine is enjoyed widely. Its name, T'ga za Jug or "Longing for the South", was inspired by a poem by Konstantin Miladinov, who is considered the founder of modern Macedonian poetry. Written while studying in Russia, the poem expressed his longing for the warm sunshine and culture of his homeland, resonating with many today. Since its founding in 1885, Tikves Winery has produced premium Macedonian wines, earning recognition both regionally and globally. In 2008, Tikves was ranked among the world's top 30 innovative wine brands at The Wine Innovation Forum in Paris, France, demonstrating their dedication to excellence.
