Bot-of-the-Cloth

A portable XY gantry design uses fabric as its base material, with two key concepts: winding string for two degrees of freedom and 3D printing components with sewn-on eyelets. Components were printed using a Dimension FDM machine, requiring post-processing for bearing shaft holes. Makerbot could also yield usable parts with additional work. Surplus gearhead motors from eBay are utilized, but stepper motors can be adapted via drive holder changes. Further info and media available at http://newtextiles.media.mit.edu/?p=570
