Recovered from an archaeological dig on Boston Common in the 1980's, this tiny clay pipe bowl may have been used as a whimsical novelty or toy, or perhaps even for smoking tiny amounts of tobacco! Dating to the late 18th century, it was likely misplaced by one of the many tourists who visited the Common, which was originally established in 1634 and continues to thrive as an active hub for the City of Boston.
