Managers were often situated at the intersection of a vault's ribs or ceiling beams. In addition to their functional purpose, they also served an aesthetic one. Cathedral vault managers can be quite massive in scale. This small rectangular manager, once part of a wooden church ceiling, has been carved into a stylized and flattened rose with leaves on each corner. Its size and flat back suggest it was solely used for decoration. This example likely originated from Llanbadarn Fawr church near Aberystwyth in Wales.
