After my trusty Bosch drill's NiCd battery packs finally gave out, it was destined for a dusty corner, as replacing them would cost almost as much as buying a new drill. I decided to create an adapter that would allow me to breathe new life into the old drill using my Ryobi Lithium-Ion pack. The design consists of two main components: the Bosch adapter and the Ryobi adapter. This modular approach allows for easy replacement of the Ryobi adapter with a custom battery pack in the future, once I get around to it. To assemble this adapter, you will need some additional materials: * 3 M4 screws (20mm long, cut to size) * 3 M4 nuts * 2 brass shims, 1mm thick, 12.5mm x 68mm in size (you can use a piece of 0.8mm copper-clad material instead) * A coil spring with an approximate diameter of 8mm and length of 70mm; a shorter spring can be used if needed * Two short pieces of 7-8mm rod to make up the total length, if your spring is less than 70mm long * More 1mm brass for the Ryobi adapter contacts * Wire Assembly should be relatively straightforward using the pictures as a reference. First, solder wires to the brass shims before sliding them into the slots in the tower. Then, attach female spade connectors to the other end of the wires and connect them to the battery adapter terminal. The Ryobi battery terminals are shaped like an L, with one leg 15mm long and the other 25mm long. The width is 6.5mm. Insert the terminals into the slots in the adapter housing and slide them all the way through the holes. Use epoxy to secure them in place. The spade connectors mate with the short part of the L.
