Artist: Anonymous During the Roman era, a skilled craftsman created this resin cast from millstone grit. The original piece is now housed at The Collection in Lincoln. Inscribed on the object is a translation of an ancient message. It reads: "In honor of the goddess Tutela Boudiga, Marcus Aurelius Lunaris, Sevir Augustalis of the colonies of York and Lincoln, in the province of Lower Britain, [erected] this altar which he vowed upon departing from York." The inscription continues, "He willingly and rightfully fulfilled his vow during the consularship of Perpetuus and Cornelianus." The object measures 101 x 8 x 65 cm. It was scanned in 2013 using a Creaform Go!SCAN 3D scanner.
