I have now finished the book merge program and updated this project. You are free to distribute it as freeware, knowing that there is no other program available for this function. This should now be able to handle a full-size DSLR camera, but I just don't have a way to test it because I don't own a DSLR. Everything you'll need to build this project is nuts and bolts, and the glass is picture frame glass - almost all frames are the same thickness, so you can choose the size that suits your needs. The size I chose was an 11x14 mainstay frame found at Walmart; I checked all the frames there and they were all the same except for the largest ones, which had thicker glass in them. I was surprised to find that all the cameras at Walmart are DV format with a resolution of 1080x720 video and at least 10 megapixels or higher for images. So, a new camera would certainly work for this purpose. I recommend using 4K cameras like the GoPro for scanning - they offer super HD video at 3600x? Some cameras also have these resolutions, like DSLR cameras, but they are really expensive. A few small cameras I've seen on eBay for around $20 also have this resolution; I'm using my Coolpix L20, which has this resolution and is being sold on eBay. This is the webcam I've chosen to use - it works fine for small reading books, but larger tech books work but are marginal.
