Book "Safe" for Reddadsteve's Opus
thingiverse
This is a custom version of book # 3 on Opus' shelf, which I designed with an empty interior to hold 'whatever' in and some slots for 8mm x 3mm magnets so it can easily be opened without worrying about falling apart when someone takes it off the shelf to examine it. Video of book safe in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPGdFZMTi3o Each part prints without supports; there's minor bridging on the 'pages' part but it shouldn't be a problem for most printers, and there's enough clearance on the parts that hold the magnets to join together that a little sagging won't matter anyway, plus you won't see it when the parts are snapped together. I ran an xacto knife around the inside of the holes for the magnets for about 2 seconds to clean off the interior so the magnets fit better; you may or may not need to do this (I was using a larger nozzle and Draft quality settings for layer height). Just glue the magnets in (ENSURE THEY ARE FACING THE CORRECT DIRECTIONS BEFORE YOU DO!!!!), place your valuables inside, and put it on the shelf with the others where no one will be any wiser. It works pretty well if I do say so myself. Thanks again to Reddadsteve for making this amazing model and encouraging teamwork - I would love to see anyone's makes if they do one or let me know how theirs turn out.
