Book Cover

thingiverse

I recently got dragged to a bookbinding class by a friend who sparked my creativity to create a journal cover with bound pages that I can add sets of to it. It's a fun project that anyone who wants another nerdy hobby like 3D-printing will love. To give it an extra twist, I printed the cover without top and bottom layers so everyone can see the infill pattern. Different patterns produce different looks, although some like Hilbert Curve won't work as well. I used sketchbook paper with origami end papers to make five 100mm x 150mm (~4" x 6") signatures for the interior (the size can vary depending on paper thickness and personal taste). A friend who knows their stuff sewed the signatures together in a Coptic stitch pattern, with seams every 30mm measured from the center of the fold. I used another thread to stitch the pages to the cover (no specific pattern, just whatever looks vaguely orderly). I've attached the Openscad file along with the STL so that anyone can change the dimensions or clearances, remove the medallion hole, or laugh at my messy coding. Enjoy, and please post any questions you have (though no promises I'll be able to answer anything bookbinding related). On a side note, if someone feels like tipping me for my design work, instead donate to the ACLU, Habitat for Humanity, Planned Parenthood, or any charity endorsed by GiveWell. Thanks in advance.
