Bontrager Glo light mount
thingiverse
I prefer using Bontrager Glo LEDs as indicators while riding at night due to their reliability and effectiveness. However, I've encountered a recurring issue with the base of these lights breaking on several occasions, which has led me to seek alternative solutions. The primary reason for this problem is likely my usage pattern when it comes to the rear red light. My bike features a full suspension setup with a dropper post, making it impossible to mount the light directly onto the post. As a result, I've had to explore other locations to secure the rear LED. Initially, I mounted the rear light on the tube leading down to the back tire. Although this location provides excellent visibility, the excess rubber strap used for mounting often hits my foot while riding. To address this issue, I no longer use the original rubber strap and instead employ zip ties to secure the base of the light. If you find yourself in a similar situation, I recommend wrapping the section of your frame under the mount with electrical tape or helicopter tape to protect your paint job and provide additional grip for the light's base. This simple modification can help prevent damage to your bike's finish. When printing these custom mounts, be sure to remove the rubber seal located at the base of the original mount, which serves as a separator between the base and body when they are disassembled. Additionally, reuse the rubber strap provided for mounting purposes. I've designed two versions of this custom mount: Glo Stl and Glow Modified Stl. Glo Stl is a direct replacement for the original Bontrager Glo LED mount. It features notches that perfectly align with the small pegs on the light housing, ensuring a snug fit. This version also includes a small round spacer that butts up against the battery, providing additional support. The design is virtually identical to the original, with some minor enhancements to increase its strength. Glow Modified Stl builds upon the Glo Stl design by incorporating a larger base or "feet" that wrap around the tube for added stability. This modification helps to counteract the thinness of the original section and provides a more secure fit in unorthodox locations like mine. Once attached, this version is virtually immovable when secured with zip ties, making it an excellent choice for those who require a more robust solution.
