BONE NEEDLE

BONE NEEDLE

sketchfab

Men and women living in Russell Cave followed strict gender roles that dictated their daily tasks based on their sex. Women took charge of textile production, using finely crafted bone needles to create essential items like leather bags made from deerskins. These early sewing tools resemble modern needles, featuring an opening at one end where animal sinew or intestines were threaded through. Bone pins turned up in every level of the cave's excavation, but they reached their peak abundance during the Woodland era when the site was inhabited.
