Bone hairpin from Roman villa of S. Cucufate, Alentejo, Portugal. High Roman Empire period (1st century AD to 3rd century AD). In ancient Rome, this object was known as Acus crinalis, a personal adornment of distinction. Its stem boasts an oval shape, tapering to a pointed end and featuring almost spherical head. Measuring 8.4 cm in total length, this remarkable artifact is on permanent display at the S. Cucufate Museum (Vila de Frades, Vidigueira). Catalog No. CUC.79.XIV.7 (1).
