sketchfab
Bone amulet-doll discovered in the Roman villa of S. Cucufate, Alentejo, Portugal. This exquisite relic dates back to the Roman Empire, spanning from the 1st century AD to the 5th century AD. The stylized female figure boasts intricate incisions that meticulously capture her facial and bodily features. A transverse bore runs through the doll's body, from shoulder to shoulder, allowing for effortless suspension. It is hypothesized that this amulet might have been commissioned to protect young brides by invoking the power of Lares and Penates, ancient Roman deities; however, this theory remains a topic of ongoing debate. Measuring 13.4 cm in total length, the bone amulet-doll takes center stage in the permanent exhibition at the S. Cucufate Museum (Vila de Frades, Vidigueira). Cataloged as No. CUC. 81 III 35 (4), this remarkable artifact was meticulously processed and modeled using Reality Capture technology from a staggering 648 photographs.
