The Bombardier CS-100 was developed as part of a family of twin-engine, medium-range narrow-body airliners designed for regional and continental markets. Initially created by Bombardier of Canada, the aircraft is now manufactured through a joint partnership with France's Airbus. The CS-100 was engineered to accommodate 100 to 133 passengers. Its maiden flight took place in September 2013, with Swiss Global Airlines and Air Baltic introducing it into service in 2016. In 2018, Airbus acquired a 50.1 percent stake in the C Series of aircraft. Two years later, Airbus opened a second assembly plant in Mobile, Alabama to produce the Airbus A220-100 and its variants.
