Engineered to accommodate 100 to 133 passengers, its maiden flight took place in September 2013. The CS-100 entered service with Swiss Global Airlines and Air Baltic in 2016. In 2018, Airbus acquired a 50.1% stake in the C Series of aircraft. Two years later, Airbus opened a second assembly plant in Mobile, Alabama to manufacture the Airbus A220-100 and its variants.
