The Bombardier CS-100 was developed as a part of a family of narrow-body twin-engine, medium-range airliners designed specifically for regional and continental markets. Originally conceived and built by Bombardier in Canada, it is now manufactured through a joint partnership with France's Airbus. The aircraft was designed to accommodate seating configurations ranging from 100 to 133 passengers. Its maiden flight took place in September 2013. In 2016, the CS-100 entered service with Swiss Global Airlines and Air Baltic. In 2018, Airbus acquired a 50.1 percent stake in the C Series of aircraft. Two years later, in 2019, Airbus opened a second assembly plant in Mobile, Alabama, to manufacture the Airbus A220-100 and its variants.
