The Bombardier CS-100 was developed as a member of a family of twin-engine, narrow-body airliners designed for the regional and continental markets. Originally conceptualized and built by Bombardier in Canada, its production is now a joint venture between Bombardier and Airbus of France. The aircraft was specifically designed to accommodate 100 to 133 passengers, making it an ideal choice for short-haul flights. Its maiden flight took place in September 2013, after which it entered commercial service with Swiss Global Airlines and Air Baltic in 2016. In a significant move, Airbus acquired a controlling 50.1 percent stake in the C Series of aircraft in 2018. Two years later, Airbus opened a second assembly plant in Mobile, Alabama, to manufacture the Airbus A220-100 and its variants.
