BoltlessStave for Transfiguration Bustle's Length
thingiverse
We're excited to share this component of our project, Americas Greatest Makers, with you. To learn more about the kit, we've created an Instructable that provides a detailed description. Initially, we used bolts to hold the parts together, but they needed to be cleaned up and then threaded after printing. When assembled, it was crucial to tighten the 6-32 bolts just the right amount to keep them together without adding too much friction. The Boltless version eliminates the need for bolts and prints in approximately 12 minutes. The laser cut version takes about 18 seconds to complete. At the moment of this writing, we're only cutting in lucite, which is somewhat brittle. We anticipate that using 1/8" material like bamboo plywood or a more pliable plastic may work much better. **Print Settings** * Printer Brand: LulzBot * Printer: Mini * Rafts: No * Supports: No * Resolution: Fast **Designing This Project** The value of projection(cut=true) in OpenSCAD plays a key role. This OpenScad script generates STLs for the 3D printed part and the laser cut version. We utilize the projection feature to translate the part until the z=0 axis cuts through its center. Then, we use the cut=true option to take a slice at that level in the 3D model.
