http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1839188 After buying my first telescope and browsing several forums to find a solid flat box design, I couldn't find what I was looking for. So I decided to model it myself. After completing it, I thought: why not share it with the entire astro photography community? Here is version 1.0 of the fully customizable flat box. WARNING! 3D printers have a nasty habit of making holes smaller than expected, so I recommend printing a test piece with this parameterizable part: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1841206 The box consists of four parts (simply split the object in Repetier Host or another software): 1) Base (legs are not necessary but recommended) 2) Walls (like the cylinder, the walls will likely be thicker than expected. You'll need to sand them to fit without damaging the slots) 3) Plexi plate support 4) Lid Post-Printing Materials to buy: White LED tape (length determined by your box's dimensions) Soldering iron and solder 3mm plexi plate Cardboard Adhesive or glue The middle parts (2 & 3) are not mandatory; a white cardboard cut to size will suffice, and the plexi plate can be glued in the corners on the bottom piece. Cut equal strips (at the indicated cutting points and correct length), solder the assemblies together to form an LED strip (see photos). Place them inside the lid (be careful with your eyes when plugging it). Cut a plexi plate (interior wall) and glue paper calque layers on the corners 2 or 3 for uniform lighting. If you don't print the walls and replace them with cardboard, you'll need to sand a part to allow a power cord to pass through and close the lid correctly.
