Bogie Tank Wagon 1:32 - Openrailway
thingiverse
This is a 1/32 model of a tank wagon used in Europe after WWII. It's an American tank car, modified for European railways with buffers and hook couplers. The tanker was deployed to carry fuel after the Normandy battle. After the war, it remained in Europe, where many were used by petroleum companies, mainly in France and neighboring countries. Some restored to their original condition are on display at Germany's Technik Museum Speyer. The model measures 35 cm long, with a wagon length of approximately 40 cm. Print Settings Printer: Vertex K8400 Rafts: None Resolution: 0.1 and 0.2 mm Infill: 40% Notes: Small objects are printed at 0.1 mm layer height, while larger ones use 0.2 mm. All prints are made from ABS on a heated bed set to 100°C, coated with 3D adhesive spray. The tank halves are printed vertically with a 5 mm brim. Some parts require support, including numbers 10, 18, and 26. The right frame (02) may need support depending on its position on the print bed. Printing the ladder can be tricky. Best results come from printing it sideways at 0.1 mm layer height with a relatively low speed. High speeds tend to cause the rungs to break. Post-Printing Before assembling the wagon, check that all parts fit together properly. Some may require sanding, filing, or drilling to match specifications. Holes have been oversized in design, but still might need some additional drilling due to printers often printing smaller holes than expected. The axle bearing holes must be drilled with a 3.2 mm bit for smooth rotation of the 3 mm axles (I'm using 3mm steel rods 67 mm long). The chassis consists of two parts and is a cantilevered beam. You can assemble it using 3 mm screws, but gluing the two halves together provides better rigidity. For ABS, I use High Pressure PVC glue; for PLA, super glue or UHU Endfest 300 work well. Assemble the tank halves with a coupling ring. Glue the ring to the tank halves and then attach the frame using six 3x25 mm screws, inserting items 03 and 07 between the two parts and item 26 under the left beam. Next, glue the domes (the manway dome - 08 - is on the left), followed by items 10 & 11 on the domes and 13 on the hatch. Glue handle 25 to the left dome and attach the catwalk and ladder to the tank. Finally, screw the buffer bars onto the frame using two 2x8 mm screws, then glue on the buffers and hook. The bogie parts can be assembled with two 2x8mm screws or glued together. You can use LGB couplers or my Märklin coupler (available at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1605582), both of which fit onto the bogie.
