The Boeing B-47 Stratojet was a long-range, six-engine jet plane designed for high-speed, high-altitude flight; it mainly aimed to carry nuclear bombs towards the Soviet Union. Adapted for numerous other missions, initial deliveries of B-47A were evaluation aircraft only. B-47B incorporated jettisonable external tanks and nose windows, with a total of 399 units built. The RB-47E served as a reconnaissance variant. First B-47A deliveries occurred in 1950.
