The Boeing B-47 Stratojet, a long-range, six-engine jet-powered medium/heavy bomber, was designed for high-speed, high-altitude flights primarily aimed at dropping nuclear bombs on the Soviet Union. It also served multiple other purposes. The first B-47A delivery occurred in 1950 and solely served evaluation purposes. The B-47B featured detachable external tanks and nose windows; 399 were manufactured. A reconnaissance variant, RB-47E, was also introduced.
