The Boeing 747-100, the first jumbo jet with nearly 500 passenger capacity, debuted in 1969 and commenced service in '70. The 747 family pioneer held the largest passenger jet record until A380's launch; it was also the biggest of all Boeing transports, being over twofold the size of 707-320. Subsequent models include -200, -300, and -400 versions, with latest -800 or -8I variant. The 747 boasts a cruising range of over 5000 miles and speed above 550 mph at 35,000 feet; newer versions deliver enhanced cruise, payload, and range capabilities.
