The original Boeing 747-100, the first jumbo jet, carried nearly 500 passengers and flew for the first time in 1969. Servicing began in 1970. The 747 Jumbo Jet, which held the record for passenger seating until the A380's service start, was the largest passenger jet globally for 37 years. Developed and manufactured by Boeing, it was the first of its family and could accommodate a maximum of 550 in single class configuration. Over twice the size of the next-largest Boeing transport, the 747-100 carried 452 passengers with two classes or 366 with three classes. Introduced at the same time as the DC-10 and L-1011 Tristar, the 747's size made it stand out from its competitors for 37 years. The -200, -300, -400, and latest -800/-8I versions continued the development of the 747 series. With a cruising range of over 5,000 miles and a speed of over 550 mph at 35,000 feet, this model boasts many animateable features like flaps, elevators, rudder, landing gear, and turbines.
