The Boeing 747-100 was the world's first widebody airliner and received its famous nickname “Jumbo Jet” because of that. It was also the first commercial aircraft with high bypass turbofan JT9D engines manufactured by Pratt & Whitney. On September 30, 1968, the first 747 was rolled out of the custom-built Everett Plant and entered service with Pan Am on January 22, 1970. The first 747-100s built featured six upper deck windows to accommodate a luxurious upstairs lounge for the first class passengers. The 747-100 could seat 366 passengers in the typical three-class configuration, it held the passenger capacity record for 37 years.
