This short- to medium-range twinjet narrow-body airliner was launched in 1981 by both USAir and Southwest Airlines as the first model of the 737 Classic series. The 737 Classic, consisting of -300/-400/-500 variants, got its name after the introduction of the -600/700/800/900 series and was initially dubbed as the 'new generation' of 737. Manufactured from 1984 to 2000, a total of 1,988 aircraft were delivered.
