However, the Boeing 717's production was halted due to competition from Embraer and Bombardier Regional Jets and reduced sales. Powered by 20,000 lbf or 21,000 lbf thrust JT8D-217C/JT8D-219 engines, the Boeing 717 was the last narrow single-aisle jetliner manufactured by Boeing.
