Designed with a smaller capacity of 106-134 passengers, it had a maximum range of 134 passengers and 1430 nautical miles for the standard version. The ER or high gross weight variant extended this to 2060 nautical miles through added auxiliary tanks. Renamed from old KC-135 tankers, these aircraft were in production from 1999-2006 but faced reduced sales due to competition from Embraer and Bombardier Regional Jets, leading to order cancellations and eventual closure of production. Powered by 20,000-21,000 lbf thrust JT8D-217C or JT8D-219 engines, the Boeing 717 was the last narrow single aisle jetliner produced by Boeing.
