Designed with a smaller passenger capacity of 106 to 134 passengers, it could accommodate up to 134 passengers based on exit capabilities. The standard version had a range of 1,430 nautical miles, while the ER or high gross weight variant featured auxiliary tanks for an extended range of 2,060 nautical miles. Produced from 1999 to 2006, the Boeing 717 faced competition from Embraer and Bombardier Regional Jets, resulting in reduced sales and eventual production cancellation. Powered by a pair of 20,000 lbf or 21,000 lbf thrust JT8D-217C/JT8D-219 engines, the Boeing 717 was the last narrow single-aisle jetliner produced by Boeing.
