The Boeing 717-200 was a variant of the McDonnell Douglas MD-95 jet commercial airliners, produced following Boeing's acquisition of McDonnell Douglas. Designed for smaller capacities of 106 to 134 passengers, it had a maximum capacity of 134 based on passenger exit capability. The standard version boasted a range of 1430 nautical miles, while the ER (high gross weight) variant featured auxiliary tanks that increased its range to 2060 nmi. The Boeing 717-200 rebranding was marked by the reuse of the original Boeing 717 model number from the KC-135 tankers. These aircraft were in production from 1999 until 2006, but faced declining sales due to competition from Embraer and Bombardier Regional Jets. This ultimately led to the cancellation of many orders and the eventual closure of production. Powered by a pair of 20,000 lbf or 21,000 lbf thrust JT8D-217C/JT8D-219 engines, the Boeing 717 was the last narrow single-aisle jetliner produced by Boeing.
