The Boeing 717-200 was a variant of the McDonnell Douglas MD-95 jet commercial airliners produced after Boeing's acquisition of McDonnell Douglas. Designed with a smaller capacity of 106 to 134 passengers, its maximum seating capability based on passenger exit capability is 134. The standard version of the Boeing 717-200 had a range of 1430 nautical miles, while the ER or high gross weight variant boasted an extended range of 2060 nautical miles thanks to two auxiliary tanks. The Boeing 717 model number was inherited from old KC-135 tankers. In production from 1999 until 2006, the 717's rebranding was defined by this reuse of the Boeing model 717 number. However, competition with Embraer and Bombardier Regional Jets led to reduced sales, causing many orders to be canceled and ultimately halting production. Powered by a pair of JT8D-217C or JT8D-219 engines, delivering 20,000 lbf or 21,000 lbf thrust respectively, the Boeing 717 was the last narrow single-aisle jetliner produced by Boeing.
