As the first four-engine Boeing airliner, it evolved from the B-17C heavy bomber, sharing identical wings, tail, stabilizers, engines, and landing gear. The fuselage boasted an aerodynamic circular design for efficient pressurization, with a width of over 12 feet. Designed as a luxurious aircraft in 1935, it was the epitome of innovation and could cruise routinely at 20,000 feet, reducing weather delays and flying above adverse conditions. This airliner also marked the first to require a flight engineer and accommodated 33 passengers.
