Body Centered Cubic Unit Cell Full Atoms
thingiverse
This is a 3D printed model of a body-centered cubic unit cell with full atoms, designed for use in a chemistry or materials classroom to illustrate the three-dimensional aspects of crystal structure. To build this model, you will need to follow these instructions: First, ensure that your 3D printer is set up and ready to use. I printed my model using two shells and a 10% infill, with a raft to provide stability. After printing, remove any excess material from the base of the print bed. Next, trim away the support structures at local minima that were added during the printing process - I used wire cutters for this purpose. This will give you a smooth, even surface on which to display your model. To further reinforce the connection between spheres in the unit cell, add cylinders or other bridging features to increase the contact area. Once these have been attached, you can inspect and admire your finished 3D printed crystal structure model.
