The name Avalokiteśvara originates from a combination of three distinct components: ava, which signifies "down", lokita, the past participle of the verb lok ("to notice"), used in an active sense; and īśvara, meaning "lord", "ruler", or "sovereign". Following Sanskrit sound combination rules, a+iśvara becomes eśvara. When combined, these parts convey the meaning "a lord who gazes down upon the world". Although the word loka ("world") is not explicitly included in the name, it remains implied, as seen in the Cambodian form of the name, Lokeśvara. This object forms part of "Scan The World", a non-profit endeavor initiated by MyMiniFactory. Scan The World aims to create a comprehensive digital repository of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks from around the globe for public access at no cost. This project is an open-source community effort; if you have items of interest nearby and wish to contribute, email stw@myminifactory.com to learn about how you can participate.
