Boba Fett EE-3 Barrel
thingiverse
This is a set of cylindrical sections forming the barrel of Boba Fett's EE-3 blaster (Empire Strikes Back version). The sections are designed to slide over a piece of PVC 40mm waste pipe, which makes the assembly much stronger when glued together. Photos show my blaster in its current state. I used black 40mm waste pipe because it was readily available. A standard pipe coupler is then used to bulk out one end. My barrel is an approximation and not 100% screen accurate. The barrel set consists of four sections for easier printing. The total barrel length is 205mm with the pieces in this order: 30mm, 50mm, 35mm, and 90mm. The 35mm and 50mm pieces have missing sections to form the characteristic "L" shape on the barrel. I've included a 45mm section so you can print two of those instead of the 90mm section. Printing two of these was easier for me than printing the 90mm piece. The inner diameter is 42mm. I recommend printing 10mm of one piece and aborting to test the fit, giving you a chance to scale the print before committing to a full set. The nozzle slides inside the pipe with two holes on the side, allowing you to pin or screw it in place. In my blaster, there is a length of wood running the entire length, so I inserted two small screws through the pipe, through the nozzle holes, and into the wood. With some epoxy glue, the nozzle is firmly in place. The side fins are attached by drilling four 5mm holes in the pipe coupler. The pegs on the fins can then be glued in place. I will update the photos when I've made more progress. Printer settings: * Brand: RepRap * Printer: Fisher * Rafts: No * Supports: No * Resolution: 0.2mm * Infill: 20% Notes: I used an infill of 20% to make the pieces slightly stronger than normal. After printing, I slide onto the 40mm waste pipe and secured with two-part epoxy. I filled some of the gap with super glue just to make sure. Once all the sections were in place, I filled with Polyfilla and sanded. These items were designed in FreeCAD using an extruded 12-sided polygon to form the body, a radial array of padded sketches to form the fins, and a cylinder to punch out the centre.
