For extra fun, check out the instructions on how to bob-omb-ify other objects around the house / shop. Instructions Intro The spark that ignited this project came when I noticed that my tissue dispenser looked suspiciously like a bobomb from Mario. All it needed were eyes and feet to become an authentic-looking creature. This project comes in two flavors: ready-to-print and customizable for those who want to make it their own. Ready-to-Print Assembly To get started with printing, first grab a tissue dispenser available online or in stores. The following files are designed specifically to fit this tissue dispenser model: bobomb_eyes.stl bobomb_foot_left.stl bobomb_foot_right.stl Printer Settings I used a Makerbot Replicator to print all the parts with default 'Standard' settings, which yielded optimal results. Key specs include: 0.2mm 10% infill 230°C extruder | 110°C build plate 90mm/s extruder | 150mm/s travel Rake + supports Eyes The eyes were printed with their backs facing down on the build platform, effectively hiding any unevenness from the supports. Feet I hit a roadblock when attempting to print both feet at once; the rake often lifted them up, causing collision on the build platform. To resolve this, I opted for printing each foot individually – a decision that paid off. Finishing After printing, use pliers to remove the support material and an exacto-knife to smooth out the edges. Some eyes turned out translucent, revealing adhesive underneath; in response, I painted the backs with white house paint. To attach the eyes, apply either glue or tacky gum – a solution I also used for freely attaching the feet, as they were secured by a ridge on the box's bottom that allowed rotation. Custom Body Objects Not interested in using a standard tissue box? Feel free to grab an alternative object you'd like to bobomb-ify. This project's modularity allows users to craft custom eyes and feet tailored to specific objects with minimal additional effort. Blender To create these customized pieces, I leveraged Blender for modeling the tissue box and matching its dimensions to the attached file – 'bobomb_parameterized.blend.' By parametrizing both the eyes and feet in millimeters, you can easily adapt them to different body shapes by swapping models and making some quick adjustments. Modeling In the provided source files (including an example mug attachment), everything is modeled on a 1:1 scale with custom parts being freely resizeable. To incorporate your chosen body model: - Reposition the attached file's eye modifier settings ('Shrinkwrap') so it targets the new body object. - Make any adjustments to fit, adjusting its 'Scale' as necessary. For reference, the attached mug model serves as a clear example for getting started with custom modifications.
