I stumbled upon an image on Pinterest that caught my eye with its concept of a board game utilizing dice as pawns, and I was hooked from the start. My interpretation takes a different approach by using standard-sized dice instead of larger ones, which not only reduces costs but also makes the game more portable. The compact design allows for easy storage, making it perfect for travel or everyday use. To accommodate this, I added recesses to the bottom of the playing board, ensuring that the pieces fit snugly in place. Given my material's thickness was 19 mm, matching recesses were necessary on the lid as well. The lid fits perfectly onto the game board, allowing you to store a single piece in your backpack without needing an additional container. This build was completed using my Sorotec BasicLine with a 4 mm two-flute endmill specifically designed for wood. The result is super clean pockets and a nice edge finish. I used a v-bit to chamfer the edges of the game fields, giving them a smooth look. To add a personal touch, I decorated the cover with a laser engraving using a cheap diode laser with a 40 mm x 40 mm work area and 1.5 watts of laser power. The design includes some German words that might not be to everyone's taste, but it adds character to the game. The reason for the double play fields in the drawing is simply because I needed to cut dog bones for the recesses and required the rounded contour to create the toolpath for the chamfer. A circle in the middle marks the center, providing a reference point when flipping the material. For more interesting toy and game designs, visit https://www.zenziwerken.de/en/Toys
