Board and Batten Jig This jig will save you a lot of time by eliminating the need to measure and mark each board. Meant for 1-1/2" wide boards but can easily be customized to fit your needs. HOW TO USE: First, measure your wall and the position of each outlet/switch with switch covers in place. Then draw the wall out on a piece of paper and run the math to find what spacing between boards will work without overlapping any outlets or switches. Print two jigs with supports. Cut a 1-1/2" board a few inches longer than the length of the spacing you need. Attach jigs to the board, noting the center line notches. Drill holes using a 5/32 drill bit. Insert screws (8/32 threads x 1-3/4 length) with nuts on the back side. Double check your center-center distance by measuring from center line to center line from one jig to the other. Ensure the nuts are tight and that the boards have a nice fit in the jig. The screw holes are slotted, allowing for an adjustment of about 1" either way. Regardless of how you adjust it, the center line will always be the center of the boards. Once you've measured and marked your first board(s), use this jig to eliminate the need to measure the rest of them. I also taped a small level to ensure everything was straight before nailing. Finally, let me know if you used this jig and if it helped. This was my 2nd or third time doing board and batten, and I believe it saved me many hours of work.
