Boar carving at St Mary's church (DV ID 158)
sketchfab
The stunning carving of a boar, situated outside St Mary's parish church in Barnard Castle, proudly stands beside the east window of the south transept. In 1475, Richard III assumed the title of Lord of Barnard Castle and embarked on substantial building projects at and around the church. As his personal emblem was a boar, it is highly probable that this carving serves as a testament to the later king's endeavors at the church. The model of this magnificent boar was meticulously crafted by George Hodgson.
