The original fuel cap of many vintage BMWs is constructed from steel, but it also contains plastic components. These motorcycles are renowned for their exceptional durability, yet plastic parts are, by their very nature, susceptible to wear and tear. These individual parts cannot be sourced separately, and what's more, the original tank cap is no longer available through official BMW channels. Consequently, I designed my own functional replica on my second prototype. It is essential to note that ABS is highly vulnerable to hydrocarbon exposure; therefore, I applied a protective epoxy coating. The anti-return valve from the original design was retained in good working condition and has been successfully integrated into this custom cap. Alternatively, it's also feasible to fabricate a replacement if needed. This fuel cap has been functioning flawlessly on my R100RS for numerous months without any issues arising.
