BLV Printhead using Zesty Nimble and Zesty Kryo, with BLTouch
thingiverse
I am in the process of building an awesome MGN Cube, but I'm planning to use the Nimble Direct Drive Extruder with their Kryo water-cooled heat sink (vertical orientation). I'll also be using a BLTouch for auto-leveling, so this is a fairly specific "thing". Maybe it'll help someone doing a variant of this and can use the components in their design. MGN Cube - https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3382718 **UPDATE - August 11, 2019** - I have done a revised version 2 of this that is the one I built for myself, and it's a bit more balanced. This one works fine, and looks more like the original MGN design, but I wanted to let anyone following this project know about the updated one. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3804623 **[UPDATE - July 10, 2019]** - About 90% there - I still have to complete the front grille and final attachments of the cover and belts, so this update is academic, but it has all the main components fleshed out before I do a printed mock-up to make final tweaks. I plan on being done by end of next week. The main changes are that I worked out how to keep the final nozzle location within .14mm of the original design that was using the E3D v6 head, and also kept the BLTouch offsets per Ben's original design in the same exact place. This means in the end, very little if any changes to the config.h file will be needed (one of the goals of this). It also incorporates Ben's beta design idea of two 4010 blowers to cool the extrusion, and managed to do that and make the overall depth even closer to the rail than the original. One last item that I plan on including is a patch board to aid in wiring. That will be a last-minute surprise, and uses an existing part from the Wanhao i3 plus printers - fairly ubiquitous and easy to get. **[UPDATE - July 16, 2019]** I finished the final draft of the design, and I'll be mocking it up next week. All the parts are now more or less done, and I'll be fine-tuning if necessary when I print and check clearances. I will also be doing a couple of shots of the early mock-up. **[UPDATE - July 25, 2019]** - I've finalized the project, since I've printed everything and assembled it to check for fit. Works well! I also worked out a patchboard to go with the back plate, so you can mount a patch panel to clean up wiring. The intent is to have one, preferably two of the patch boards made at any number of inexpensive online PCB prototyping sites, solder on the header, JST connectors, and a 20-pin IDC connector. Then you use a round to flat ribbon cable to carry the power and signals in a neat manner to the electronics. **[UPDATE - July 31, 2019]** _ I received a production Kryo and was able to test fit it. I modified slightly the front and back carriage STL files to allow for better fitment. **[UPDATE - August 22, 2019]** _ I fixed a small problem with the patchboard that prevented the JST-XH headers from fitting.
