A poison bottle made from blue glass, specifically for arsenic solution, is seen here. This British-made container has no signature and dates back to between 1801 and 1935. Although arsenic was highly toxic, it was still used as an ingredient in various treatments throughout history. Like mercury, another poisonous chemical, arsenic was widely used to treat syphilis. In a pharmacy setting, this blue glass bottle features ridges that allow users to identify its contents by touch if taken in large doses. Colored glass was also used to indicate the presence of poisons.
