Bloodhound SSC model

Bloodhound SSC model

I used JT format files from the bloodhound website to create this model, which is available online at http://www.bloodhoundssc.com/cad-drawings. I then converted the majority of the bodywork and external JT files to .obj and .stl files using JNetCAD software located at http://www.johannes-raida.de/jnetcad.htm. This initial process got the files into a usable format, but issues remained with the models. They either appeared as solids or collections of surfaces and exhibited significant interferences, surface duplications, and gaps. To resolve these problems, I combined various tools such as meshmixer at http://www.meshmixer.com/, netfabb basic from http://www.netfabb.com/basic.php, the online cloud-based version of netfabb accessed through https://netfabb.azurewebsites.net/, and Solidworks 2013 found at http://www.solidworks.com/. Through careful editing, combining, trimming, bridging, splitting, and modifying the files using these tools, I was able to prepare them for 3D printing. I have uploaded both .stl and Solidworks file formats for further development and testing purposes. These models require considerable scaling down to accommodate print bed dimensions, due to their 'full size' specifications. Note that significant detail is missing from the rocket exhaust and parachutes areas, so feel free to contribute to those regions. This model was the culmination of over 30 hours of intensive research, editing efforts, and numerous software crashes. Therefore, it is only fair to request proper attributions if anyone uses this design for any exciting projects or publications.
